Ultimate Packing List – What’s in my Backpack?

By on 18. August 2017

The ultimate packing list is something I thought about a long, long time. Do you also have the poblem, that you never know what to take on your travels or vacations? Do you always think you have forgotten something? Do you know the situation where you stand in your hotel, homstay or hostel room and start getting mad about yourself, because you left something at home? This is all past…

Ultimate Packing List – Variables, problem & solution

Over the years of travelling as much as I can, I have realised, that my behaviour of what I take with me on my journeys has changed constantly. There was always something different in my backpack. It depends on various factors:

  • Where do I go (desert, mountains, beach, etc.).
  • Who do I go with (maybe I need to pack for certain occasions)
  • How long do I travel (big or small backpack)
  • Can I buy some stuff on site? (I could maybe pack less)

I never had the situation where I said „Oh, it was stupid to take this with me, because…“. And that’s, because I use a secret. From now on this secret will always save you from packing the wrong things. You want to know what it is?

It’s called:

Common Sense

Get yourself some good gear that you are happy and comfortable with

Problem & solution

Guys, just use your head before you pack. It’s a trial and error kind of thing. I have seen so many people on my travels (men and women), taking all kind of crap with them, which they have never even touched. And then these people sometimes even say:“Why do I always take that with me? I never use it anyway“. Are you one of these people? Or you maybe know some of them? Yeah, we all know them. And we have all been there 🙂

And it’s completely okay. There is nothing wrong with being like that or packing a little bit to much…

I just want to say, you can save yourself a lot of time and energy, if you use my ultimate packing list!

If I would sum up everything, that I have tried out over the years, it would probably be the biggest packing list ever. You can already read here what I use nowerdays and why I use it. It’s my ultimate travel gear. But the following ultimate packing list is about all the stuff you could possibly need as a traveller!

The only thing you have to do is to – pick the right things for the specific journey ahead and cross it off your list.

Ultimate Packing List – 3 main categories

Okay guys, let’s jump right into it. But before we start, I just quickly want to tell you, that everything you will find in here is something I would recommend. I have researched a lot and looked up many reviews. Still, it does not mean, that I personally use everything of it. I will always tell you after every section what I use to give you a little inside.

Ultimate Packing List – Foundation

I use a small backpack nowerdays, because I don’t need that much

The foundation of the ultimate packing list is a proper backpack or a suitcase. I prefer to use a backpack, because I find it more convenient. But I have seen other travellers, who travelled the whole world with a suitcase and it worked for them.

Here are some options:

Backpacks

All of these options have something different, which is really good about them. I use a way smaller backpack (55l), because I don’t need that much anymore. But I started with a bigger one and I still recommend them to anyone. When I go on a bigger trip, I still use a bigger one too.

All of them are actually the ones, that I flirted with when I bought my first backpack. So, I hope you’ll like them 😉

If you want to know how to choose the right backpack, read this post.

My current small backpack

Suitecases

Ultimate Packing List – Clothes

In this case, I am also gonna give you a lot to choose from. I try to give you options for hot and cold regions. So, it doesn’t matter where you go, you will always be prepared properly.

A little bit of what I pack

Warm regions:

Cold regions:

For both cases, cold and warm regions, I use exactly the listed stuff. There is not much more you can and should pack in my opinion anyway. If something pops up in your head, you probably won’t need it 😉

Ultimate Packing List – Miscellaneous

Obviously the ultimate packing list does not only consist out of clothes. You will need some general things too:

I think, you won’t need more than the listed stuff. Same thing here – If something comes to your mind, you probably won’t need it.

Always remember: Everything you pack, you also have to carry!

Booking.com

Ultimate Packing List – Documents

This might be the most important section out of all. You can buy everything, which is named in the ultimate packing list, whereever you want. If you forgot something, it would not be a big of a problem. But you will always need your important documents. So, here is what you have to take with you:

  • Passport
  • Personal ID
  • Credit card (2x – just in case)
  • Insurance card
  • Immunization cars
  • International driving license
  • Activity licenses (scuba diving, sky diving, hunting, fishing, etc.)
  • Small wallet
  • Bumbag
  • Emergancy numbers list

I would recommend you to always take a copy of all the documents with you in case you lose something. Besides that, you don’t want to give foreigners your original documents, if it’s not 100% necessary. Trust me!

Ultimate Packing List – Hygiene products

To give you a small glimpse from what I take with me

Regarding hygiene products I won’t name female products, because obviously I don’t use them and I don’t have a single clue what girls have in their washbag 😉

This leads me to the first point:

Every kind of hygiene products are easy to get in any drogstore overseas. So, don’t worry, if you forgot something.

Ultimate Packing List – Medication

Some medication from the Ultimate Packing List

This is also quite important in my opinion. Especially, if you get really sick and you are not able to go to the pharmacy anymore. In that case, it is good to have at least some basic medication with you (primarly in less developed countries). In this section I don’t want to recommend anything about how much you should take with you and which products to choose. This is really up to you, because everyone has different health needs. I only want to show, what my ultimate packing list at least includes:

  • Ibuprofen
  • Paracetamol
  • Throat analgesic
  • Nasal spray
  • Ear drops
  • Plasters
  • Disinfection spray (small)
  • Ointment (small)
  • Charcoal tablets (smal pack)
  • Sea sickness tablets (small pack)
  • Sedative tablets (for flights)
  • Sleeping tablets
  • Stomach tablets
  • Vitamin tablets (small pack)

Ultimate Packing List – Electronics

I need a little more electronics

This is my favourite section, even though it is not that long. I know, everyone likes different electronic products and brands. But I try to give you a small overview what you could take to make good photos, videos, etc. I actually use all of it, because I need it for my blog and I just find to be useful 🙂

The most important thing comes first:

I know this sounds like quite a lot, but it really isn’t. It all fits in to the small backpack that I use. If something doesn’t seem to be useful for you, then just leave it out 😉

  • Admiring the beauty of Morocco's National Parks... 😍🌴
.
One thing I learned again on my trip through this country is that being able to visit places like this is a true privilege
.
I have seen many many poor people in Morocco
.
Actually the poorest of the poorest
.
I even had to give a 10 year old kid some food that I had left in my car, while he wanted to sell me some souvenirs to get money for his family 😕
.
This would never ever happen where I come from. It's actually illegal ☝
.
But there, people have to do it
.
This was one of many situations in Morocco that taught me about something about GRATITUDE again
.
Being grateful is so important, especially for people from privileged countries
.
We all tend to forget what kind of great lifes we actually have, because things like a child labour or example, doesn't even effect us in any way
.
Most of us can actually be more than grateful for the lifes we live and the countries we are able to travel because of the money we make❗
.
Every time I travel a new country I realize this more and more
.
And I am highly thankful for those lessons each and every time, because you really only learn them when you visit poor foreign places
.
The best thing about these lessons is that you learn to be able to put things into perspective... 🙏
.
So thanks to the beauty of Morocco
.
Thanks to the awesome people I met
.
And thanks for all the lessons I have learned again... 👌

  • Enjoying a bit of sunlight after coming back home to Hamburg 😊
.
I just came back from Morocco today and I can only highly recommend to visit this country ❗
.
From all of the places I have visited so far, Morocco is definitely on top of my list for many reasons
.
It is no suprise that it is getting more and more popular every year
.
Nevertheless I have to say that it feels good to be back home 💙
.
I really didn't want to leave Morocco though... 😟
.
I would have loved to travel it even more, but I know I will definitely come back
.
The good thing is, there is always a next destination to travel to... 😉
.
TELL ME: Anyone having any recommendations where to travel next???

  • Riding into the desert's sunset... 🐫😀
.
Seeing the Sahara was a dream of mine for a long long time
.
When I finally realized it, I could not believe it
.
And I still can't... 🙈
.
Riding a camel for a couple hours, sleeping in a proper berber tent, having dinner and a jam session with the locals as well as watching the sunrise and the sunset was more than I ever expected 😍
.
So what does that show you ???
.
Simply that dreams come true❗
.
If you really believe in them, they will be reality one day
.
Just keep moving towards them all the time and you'll eventually arrive where you always wanted to be 💪

  • So in love view with that top view of the Dades Gorge 😍
.
And this is only the tip of iceberg... 👌
.
The drive to this place was absolutely phenomenal
.
I literally had to stop 6 or 7 times within 30 minutes to takes pictures, because the views just absolutely amazed me 👍
.
On the way there I also picked up a moroccan local as well as a german traveller, that I spent the last three days with
.
The east of the atlas mountains is absolutely worth a trip and I can only highly recommend to come here 😊
.
I also already learned something again from the locals
.
ALL of them are incredibly friendly and they always try to help you with everything you ask them, even if they can barley speak one word of English
.
And if they can't explain properly, they take you to a friend or they try to communicate with hands and feet until you understand them 😄
.
Such a lovely bunch of people ❤
.
The kindess thry have and love they spread is Definetely something to adopt!

  • How wonderful are the Ouzoud waterfalls??? 😍
.
I really start to fall in love with Morocco slowly❗
.
At first I had to a couple task to master but now I like this country more and more
.
Everywhere you go, you see extraordinary landscapes with stunning sights that simply take your breath away 👌
.
The ouzoud waterfalls are one of them
.
They rise up to about 110m and they are just a short trip away from the Marrakesh
.
Definitely worth a trip!
.
I am only here since 6 days and I can already highly recommend to make this one of your top destinations to travel to in 2018 👍
.
TELL ME: Does anyone know some good spots to visit along the southern coastline? 😄

  • Lost in the narrow alleys of Marrakesh 😍
.
I had a couple problems during my first two days in Morocco
.
When I arrived at the airport, the police took my drone away, because apparently you are not allowed to takes drones to this country
.
I also wasn't able to get a working navigation for the car that I have rented, so I had to sort it out in the city centre of Marrakesh, which wasn't that easy to be honest
.
Additionally I was not really prepared for the cold nights 😅
.
So it was quite a rough start
.
Nevertheless I have to say that I really like this Morocco so far❗
.
The food is great, during the day it's always sunny, the architecture is amazing and the people are incredibly friendly 😃
.
Today the REAL tour starts
.
I will leave Marrakesh and visit the highest waterfalls of Morocco in Ouzoud 😁
.
Sooo excited!
.
TELL ME: Do you have any other recommendations on what to see and do in Morocco???
.
Drop them in the comments! 😃
