5 best places to visit in Thailand – The ultimate Must Do’s

By on 12. Juli 2017

The 5 best places to visit in Thailand are really difficult to choose. Thailand has so many incredible places to visit. No doubt about that. But there are some places that stand out from all the others. Because of the fact that this country is so diverse, the following 5 spots are very different. But each and every one of them is unique in itself.

5 best places to visit in Thailand

When I travelled Thailand, I tried to visit the whole country and see as much as I possibly could. I wanted to visit pulsing cities, experience the rawness of nature and see true paradise.

So, I made sure to dive in deep into the culture and I tried to get to know the Thai people as much as I could. I was really fascinated by this country. It has good and bad sides. But this country is very interesting and you can learn a lot from it.

It separates itself from countries like Indonesia and the Philippines. It is very unique, which is hard to explain, but maybe the 5 best places to visit in Thailand give you a little impression.

What waits for you at one of the 5 best places to visit on Thailand

The views you get in Thailand are mind blowing

Stunning nature everywhere you go in Thailand

Bangkok City

Bangkok has to be under the 5 best places to visit in Thailand. This is one of the most famous cities in the world. Everyone knows it. Especially after the the movie “hangover”. But Bangkok is not only famous for that. It is also very diverse. Many old temples, street food everywhere and loads and loads of interesting people. You can visit the Tiger Temple, floating markets (good article  @therealtravelers) , the big Golden Budda and so much more. Bangkok is also the pivotal point of Thailand. If you want to go anywhere within this country you have to pass Bangkok.

Bangkok from above

This city is also under the 5 best places to visit in Thailand, because it has two sides. The rich one and the poor one. I have only seen the poor side of Thailand. People try to sell you aaaanything to survive, but that is also a reason what makes this country to what it is. Open minded, active people everywhere. Just a cool spot to be at even though I have to admit it is really, really busy and dirty in a way. So it is not for everyone.

Big Golden Buddha in Bangkok

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is an old town in the north of Thailand. You find big raw jungles all around the city. The north of Thailand is completely different to the south in any way. The south is full of islands, that look like paradise. But the north is the complete opposite. Forests and valleys everywhere. A lot of rain and a very humid area to live in. Chiang Mai perfectly fits into this picture and that is why it is named under the 5 best places to visit in Thailand.

Chiang Mai jungle trekking tour with beautiful rice terraces

You can visit various temples or live like a monk for as long as you want. You also have the opportunity to go on a jungle tour. That’s what I did. It is a crazy experience to go trekking in the deepest rainforest you might ever see. Along the way you see many good animals like buffalos, spiders and snakes. You also gonna visit some cool waterfalls, float down a river, go elephant riding and slide down some muddy trails. It’s good fun! Also, just enjoying the views you get by driving around with a scooter is a fantastic experience. So, make sure to visit this area.

The view over the Chiang Mai jungle

Koh Tao Island

Koh Tao must be under the 5 best places to visit in Thailand. This is one of my favourite islands I have ever been to. The vibe on Koh Tao is just phenomenal. Reaaaally relaxed. Besides that fact, that it is very beautiful with its nice valleys and several torquoise bays, it is also a predestined island for scuba divers. Koh Tao is the 2nd cheapest island to get your PADI scuba diving license in the whole world. I only payed about 200 € to get mine, which is a joke compared to other countries.

Koh Tao’s beaches

The island is full of really pretty beaches with palm tree everywhere. You also find great night life with several bars and clubs to go to. The locals always do their fire shows every night, where they spin sticks with fire and do some cool tricks with them. It’s quite a small island compared to the other known Thai islands, which make it easy to get around. Food and accommodation is cheap. People are friendly and nature is really pretty. You have a tropical climate and it’s sunny most of the time. No suprise it is under the list of the 5 best places to visit in Thailand.

These kind of views are why Koh Tao is under the 5 best places to visit in Thailand

Koh Phangan Island

Koh Phangan is very similar to Koh Tao. Just way bigger and much more packed. It is still under the top 5 places to visit in Thailand. Why? Because it is a really beautiful island too and you find the Fullmoon party there as well as many others, which is a must see. When you drive around the island, you will drive over some mountain paths, through the jungle and end up at several wonderful white sand beaches, that look like heaven. You have many optional activities to do like jet ski driving or boat cruises.

Koh Phangan northern beaches

The biggest highlights are the famous “Amsterdam Bar” as well as the mentioned Fullmoon party. This is the main reason why people come to Koh Phangan. It is a very good party with about 5 – 10.000 people on one big beach. Just watch out a little. Some people try to steal your money 😉 Many people also come for the jungle party, which is set up a little bit like the Tomorrowland festival from the way the stages are built and everything is made up, except of the fact, that it is in middle of a forest. Really cool and food fun. So, make sure to put it on your list of the 5 best places to visit in Thailand 😉

Legendary parties on beautiful beaches from one of the 5 best places to visit in Thailand

Koh Phi Phi Island

The last point is a must and is has to be on the list of the 5 best places to visit in Thailand. Koh Phi Phi is an absolute dream from, if you look at it from above. Before the tsunami in 2006 it was pretty undeveloped. Nowerdays it is full of tourism. Still, if you look at it from above, it will drop your jaw. It looks so scenic with two beautiful bays in different colours on each side of the island and the huge surrounding limestone cliffs. Spectecular!

Incredible surroundings on Koh Phi Phi

Koh Phi Phi view point

Also make sure to go on a snorkeling boat cruise to Maya Bay. This is where the movie The Beach was filmed with Leonardo DiCaprio. This part of Koh Phi Phi can be found at the 2nd island. It is an incomparable paradise, which you won’t find anywhere else like this. The water colour is a combination out of light green and light blue. The beach has fine white sand. Around and in between the big limestone mountains you can go snorkeling and diving. Some Thai people have even built their homes into some caves in the area. A very unique way of living. And of course, you can go on great parties there as well. It is just a good combination, which is why it has to be under the 5 best places to visit in Thailand!

  • Strolling through paradise... 😍👌🌴
.
Some places on our planet are just crazy beautiful .
It's almost impossible to describe the beauty and the feeling that you get when you walk around at beaches like this one 🌞
.
I could not say which beach of all the ones I have seen so far would be the best one, but all the beaches in El Nido are definitely top ranked 🌏
.
TELL ME: Where did you really feel lost (in a good way 😉) the last time???
.
#paradise #island
  • Hello mate, how are you? 😀🐻🐾
.
Isn't that the cutest animal on earth?
.
What I can definitely say for myself is that they are easily the fluffiest I have ever touched 😍
.
And they are by far the most relaxed animals ever. Maybe because of all the eucalyptus they eat... 😉
.
TELL ME: What's YOUR favourite animal?
.

  • The door to Angkor Wat during sunrise 😍🌅
.
I love a good sunrise! Not only because of its enormous beauty, but mainly for the fact that it's the perfect symbol for a new chance 👌
.
A new chance to improve
.
A new chance to do something good
.
A new chance to bring value to the world
.
A new chance to walk towards the right direction
.
And ultimately and new chance to get the best out your life and make great memories!
.
Great Memories that you can tell grandchildren about in 50 years from now, which will teach them some valuable lessons for life 🙏

  • A perfect example of a unique city that can teach a great lesson❗
.
Spending some time in one of the coolest and most beautiful cities on the planet made me think about what an insane level of power, creativity and endurance humanity has
.
It's crazy what we are able to do and to build nowerdays. But it has always been like this ⏳
.
Prague is a really good example for that. A city full of thousands and thousands of details, wonderful buildings and historically important monuments, all built over a course of hundreds of years
.
And the required power, creativity and endurance the people needed is something that we all have within ourselfs 🔥
.
It's not only reservated for specific people or special human beings
.
Everyone has that in him/ herself ! 💪
.
It's just about recognizing these strenghts and letting them all out... 👊 and don't let anyone tell you any different!
.
I always say this (on my website as well) - travel is the best teacher. You just need to find the true values of it and adapt them to your everyday life 👌
.

  • What's the true value of home? 😍🍁
.
Pretty autumn views like this one from a nearby forest of my hometown Hamburg?
.
Maybe...
.
But not really. In my opinion it's something else
.
As much as I like travelling around, discovering new places, getting to know other cultures, meeting new people and seeing other types of wonderful landscapes, I just still never forget where I come from ⚓
.
Exploring the world as much as possible is great, but there is also a great value in appreciating your own Backround
.
The more I look around, the more I see young people like me, who want to escape from their home countries, just to wander around for as long as possible with no real intent
.
I think that's a big mistake! ☝
.
When the travel bug gets me again, I never JUST travel around to say:" hey look, I left things behind and went on the next big journey. Isn't that awesome???"
.
It is in a way, but not to much to be honest
.
When I go somewhere I always try to learn something new from the journey itself, the people or the culture AND THEN take it back home with me and use for my future
.
This why HOME is so important... Because it's the base where it all starts and Without home there would be nothing to ultimately come back and adapt your new skills to
.
So always make sure to appreciate home and where you come from 👌💪
.

  • I can already say, that exploring Nacpan Beach was one of the most beautiful things I have done this year even though there are still 2 months left... 😉😍
.
It's always fascinating to me how fast beautiful places like this usually become mass tourism spots
.
Luckily Nacpan Beach is still quite undeveloped and therefore one of the prettiest and most pristine beaches in northern Palawan in my opinion
.
Hopefully it stays like this for a long, long time ⏳🙏
.
If you have never been, I highly recommend to make this one of your next travel goals 😄

  • I don't know about you but I absolutely LOVE adventures❗
.
You know why?
.
Because they push you, they are fun AND you LEARN something valuable from them every single time 👊
.
One of the greatest adventures I have done in my life so far was a road trip through the center of Vietnam with my motorcycle that I called "Foxy Roxy" (I know that's weird 😅)
.
When I did it, I did not know what to expect, but my goal was to have an awesome time
.
I found out pretty quickly that it's gonna be a hard challenge: many locals didn't really speak English, roads have been in bad constitution, I got lost a couple times, my motorbike broke down 2 times, I freezed my ass off in the mountains and much, much more
.
So why was this adventure great then?
.
Because I LEARNED that you have got to keep pushing even if you struggle hard. You always have to keep going. Never give up. Keep moving and don't ever stop 💪
.
That's what I did, which is why I ended up having an amazing time: I saw awesome landscapes, met the friendliest people, found lost temples and ultimately learned an important lesson for life
.
ALWAYS keep pushing towards you goals EVERY single day and never give up
.
I AM CURIOUS: What is your biggest travel lesson??? 😊
.

  • There is a quote that says "if traveling was free, you'd never see me again" and this quote fits my attitude a 100%❗
.
My ultimate goal is to become free one day, financially and personally, so that I can travel to awesome places like banaue in the Philippines whenever I want 😍
.
Just being free of boundaries and the 9 to 5 lifestyle
.
If I had the chance, I'd probably travel the whole planet 🌎
.
Who's with me on this??? 😀
.
#banaue #riceterraces
  • One of the best sunsets I have ever seen was on Koh Lanta in Thailand 🌅
.
I just love a good sunset and I know I am not the only one... 😉
.
So TELL ME: where was your favourite sunset at? 🌎
.
P.s. I am going to London in 3 weeks. Anyone who has some tips on what to do?
