The top 5 things to do in New South Wales

By on 28. Februar 2017

The top 5 things to do in New South Wales are very hard to pick. This region of the world has so many wonderful places to visit. Australia has countless of beautiful spots anyway, but New South Wales especially. From fascinating metropoles to great wildlife and UNESCO World Heritage national parks. Everything can be found here and all of it will give you some special memories for life.

The top 5 things to do in New South Wales

The top 5 things to do in New South Wales are something truely special to me. Each and every one of these spots means a lot and is something I will never forget. During the time I travelled the East Coast of Australia I have seen a lot of cool stuff, but this whole region is truely great. It is just a nice mix out of history, city and beach life. Really worth visiting!

The first thing I have to mention on the list of the top 5 things to do in New South Wales is the Blue Mountains National Park. This national park might be the best one I have seen in whole Australia besides Wilsons Promontory. It is an UNESCO World Heritage sight and just that speaks for itself. What you see there is absolutely incredible.

You can book a tour or discover the park on your own. Either way is good. I did a day tour, which was enough to see the main attractions of this wonderful piece of nature. But still, you can also go for a couple days and explore even more. You might even get a deeper insight about the history and other important things to know.

The Blue Mountains National Park is just about an hour away from Sydney and accessable very easily. Many tourists visit it every year and I have not seen anyone, who did not like it 🙂

The second thing on the list of the top 5 things to do in New South Wales is to hang out the village of Byron Bay for a couple days or weeks. Byron Bay is easily under my favourite places to visit in whole Australia for many reasons. The relaxed flair and the hippy vibes you get there will make you wanna stay for a long time. Easy going people combined with constantly good climate and nice spots to surf. What else do you want? 😉

Whenever you are in this region, just make sure to bring some time. I was in Byron Bay for about a week, but should have definitely stayed way longer than that. Just a great place, which I would always go back to without any hesitation!

Visiting Canberra is also one of the things that has to be on the list of the top 5 things to do in New South Wales. I have to admit, that I did not go to Canberra, because I did not have enough time. People told me it is definitely something different compared to other cities on your east coast trip. It is a historically important city, but not a place where you would usually decide to stay for a longer term. You can not really compare it to Melbourne, Perth, Sydney or Brisbane at any stage.

But because of the fact that it is the capital of Australia, you should actually do it differently than I did and take your time to have a look at it 😉

You can not forget Sydney on the top 5 things to do in New South Wales. It is one of the worlds most known cities and it is a highlight on the Australian east coast. There are countless things to do and to see in this spectecular metropole. Sydney is the pivotal point of New South Wales from where most people start there road trips down south towards Melbourne or up north towards Cairns.

Besides all the main attractions in Sydney, I can give you a little tip on what else to do to upsorb this city’s vibes. Go and spend a day just on having a look at all the street artists, musicians and maybe even an alternative neighborhood. That was something, that I personally loved about this city and I would recommend anyone to take some time for that.

Top 5 things to do in New South Wales: #5

The last thing that has to be considered under the top 5 things to do in New South Wales are actually three sights, because I was not able to decide 🙂 They all belong to the city of Sydney. It’s the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and Bondi Beach. All of these sights have their own special thing to it. The Opera House is the world famous building that was shown everywhere at the Olympic Games in year 2000.

The Harbour Bridge is literally two hundred meters away. It is the crossover from the southern to the northern side of Sydney. The Bondi Beach is basically just a very known bay/ beach for surfers with nice cafès and bars next to it. It might be one of the coolest city beaches all over the world – at least it is in Australia.

From all of these beautiful destinations in New South Wales it is hard to say, which one is the best. I am not able to decide. Everyone should make his/ her own opinion on that 😉 But what I can say for myself is, that I have learned of travel lessons a lot from visiting all these places and I highly recommend any of these spots!

  • What a fantastic day! 😀👌
We all tend to go to far away places to be happy and experience something new
But in my opinion we should all sometimes start by appreciating where we come from explore our own cities more 👍
This is why I had a closer look at my hometown yesterday
I went to neighbourhoods I have never been to, checked out small local markets, walked along the Elbe and ended up at the beautiful inner Alster
All of the with my new comfortable kicks from @boxfresh that I bought myself last week. Check them out. I definitely recommend them. Especially for a longer city walk! 😉

I have lately been to the shore of northern Germany for a couple days and It always surprises me how many people want to get FAR FAR away places when they travel (including myself)
It seems like the longer you have to travel to a place, the better it will be
But this is not always the truth❗
In my opinion, we should all start to explore our own country first before we get to foreign countries at the end of the world
There is so much to see and to explore in our home countries that we don't even know off most of the time
Every place has something beautiful about it. It's up to ourself to see the real value and start appreciating that
And it all begins with the "places around the corner"
