5 best road trip destinations in Queensland

By on 22. Februar 2017

From all the places I have seen in Australia, I can say that the 5 best road trip destinations in Queensland have been one of my favourites. Queensland is a perfect state to do a road trip. Good weather, many different sights, exotic wildlife and much more. Everyone will find something, that he/she likes. I guess, I have not met a traveller, who did not like this state and especially the following 5 destinations.

5 best road trip destinations in Queensland

All road trip destinations I have been to are great. Does not matter where you go within Australia. But the 5 best road trip destinations in Queensland are on top of the list for sure. I guess, everyone will see it differentely, but there is no doubt, that Queensland is a fantastic state. And you should definitely have a look at it. Especially at these places…

Fraser Island’s 75 Mile Beach

Gold Coast

The first one on the list of the 5 best road trip destinations in Queensland, which you have to see, has to be the Gold Coast. I have learned a lot of travel lessons on the Gold Coast. What impressed me a lot was the fact that even though there is a lot of tourism, it still does not seem to packed or destroyed. Often that is the fact in other countries, but the Australians do a good job on keeping everything clean and attractive.

This coastline is the perfect spot for surfers (beginners and pro’s) as well as tourists, who want to enjoy the typical Australia. Simultaneously there is also something for travellers and backpackers, who just want to have fun. Surfers Paradise is the nr. 1 spot for that.

Additionally it is not far away from cool places like Byron Bay or Noosa Heads. So make sure to have a look at the Gold Coast 😉

Whitsunday Islands

Make sure to put the Whitsunday Islands on your list of the 5 best road trip destinations in Queensland as well. It is one of THE major things you have to see in this country. I visited this wonderful area with my girlfriend by booking a 3 day tour with a group of about 30 people (price: about 470 $).

You will mostly get there with a sailing boat. If you are lucky or, if you have connections, you might be able to do a private tour on a yacht (met some people, who did that 🙂 ). The main things to do and attractions to see are Whitehaven Beach, Hamilton island and to go snorkeling. Maybe you will even spot some exotic animals 😉

I really loved the tour that we did and I highly recommend it to anyone!

Whitehaven Beach is insanely beautiful

Fraser Island

Fraser Island is so cool! I have rarely seen anyone, who did not like this island and it has to be under the 5 best road trip destinations in Queensland in my opinion. Fraser island is the biggest sand island on earth. You will get there by booking a tour (mostly 3 day tours – 350 – 400 $) or you go on your own. You will need a 4 wheel drive though. Otherwise you won’t get very far.

Some of the main spots to visit are:

  • Maheno wreck
  • Champagnè pools
  • Indian Heads
  • Lake Wabby
  • Lake McKenzie
  • Eli Creek
  • 75 Mile Beach

All of these spots are very beautiful. If you book a guided tour, you will probably go partying on the campgrounds with about 80 – 120 other travellers. Everyone goes completely nuts 😉 It’s really good fun!

Endless beaches at Fraser Island

Great Barrier Reef

A place you can not miss and definitely have to put under the 5 best road trip destinations in Queensland is the world famous Great Barrier Reef. Everyone knows this beautiful piece of nature and you have to see it!

The Great Barrier Reef is the biggest coral reef on earth. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site. I went on a 1 day trip with my girlfriend and we did a snorkeling as well as scuba diving tour on the outta reef.

A tour costs about 195 $, but the prices vary. You can also book a 2 or 3 day trip, but the prices will be much higher then. This trip is absolutely worth its money. The Great Barrier Reef blew my mind completely. It is something that I will never forget and you won’t as well. Trust me!

Daintree Rainforest

The last point on the list of the 5 best road trip destinations in Queensland has to be the Daintree Rainforest. This rainforest is truely special. It split apart from the Amazonas millions of years ago. Nowerdays it is the home of many aboriginal tribes and various animals species. Cassowaries are one to name 🙂 Also have a look at Palm Cove, Mossman Gorge and Port Douglas, if you are your way to the Daintree Rainforest. Three wonderful spots you should not miss.

When you are actually at Daintree itself, then make sure to go to Cape Tribulation. It is a very pretty beach where James Cook in 1768 almost sunk his boat. This is also an UNESCO World Heritage sight. You will find a lot of them in Australia 😉

To visit all of these places you have to drive a lot, but it is really worth the effort 😉

Riding a camel for a couple hours, sleeping in a proper berber tent, having dinner and a jam session with the locals as well as watching the sunrise and the sunset was more than I ever expected 😍
.
So what does that show you ???

Simply that dreams come true❗

  • Lost in the narrow alleys of Marrakesh 😍
.
I had a couple problems during my first two days in Morocco
.
When I arrived at the airport, the police took my drone away, because apparently you are not allowed to takes drones to this country
.
I also wasn't able to get a working navigation for the car that I have rented, so I had to sort it out in the city centre of Marrakesh, which wasn't that easy to be honest
.
Additionally I was not really prepared for the cold nights 😅
.
So it was quite a rough start
.
Nevertheless I have to say that I really like this Morocco so far❗
.
The food is great, during the day it's always sunny, the architecture is amazing and the people are incredibly friendly 😃
.
Today the REAL tour starts
.
I will leave Marrakesh and visit the highest waterfalls of Morocco in Ouzoud 😁
.
Sooo excited!
.
TELL ME: Do you have any other recommendations on what to see and do in Morocco???
.
Drop them in the comments! 😃

  • Is there anything better than a great sunset by a wonderful beach??? 😀🌅
.
I don't really know 😅
.
I have to admit, however, that I like a pretty sunrise a little more than a sunset to be honest
.
But why?
.
I guess, because a sunrise symbolises a new start 👌
.
A start to a new day
.
A start to a new week
.
A start to a new life
.
A start to whatever you want to be new
.
And that's what life comes down to a lot of times anyway, right? It's about starting things over and over again until they work out the way you want them to 💪
.
TELL ME: What do you like more, a sunset or a sunrise??? 😄
.

  • Portrait of a Filippino kid at Coron Island 👧
.
You guys already know that I often talk about what you can learn from travelling
.
THIS picture is the perfect example why I do that so often❗
.
Visiting the Philippines and especially seeing the local homeless kids in Coron made me learn something really valuable again
.
Even though these kids literally have nothing, they still seem very happy and they always have a smile on their face
.
The only thing you need to do is to wave, take a picture or just simply talk to them 📷
.
These kids taught me a lot about gratitude and happiness
.
Since I saw them, I try to be grateful for each and every single day, because I don't have to live under these kind of circumstances (and never had to)
.
Plus, if they can be happy with the life they live, then I can do it too!
.
Most people, including me, complain waaay to much about things that are not worth complaining about 😒
.
Sometimes it just needs a situation like seeing some homeless Filippino kids to put things in the right perspective again 🙏

  • Throwing stones around while sitting by a crystal clear swedish river in the middle of nowhere 🌲🙏
.
For me, this is the ultimate example for a perfect timeout
.
I don't know how you guys see it, but I feel that having a proper timeout once in a while gets more and more important in our modern world 🌏
.
Everything gets faster and faster every single day
.
Sometimes it's almost impossible to keep up with the pace
.
I am not saying that hustle or working hard is a bad thing (actually the opposite), but in oder to give a 100 %, you need to be fully focused and energized 💪
.
This is why I try to get my german ass to other countries as much as I can, to just simply be disconnected from the hustle and to recharge my batteries
.
For my next timeout I have Marocco on my list, starting from the upcoming sunday! 😀
.
I will climb North Africa's highest mountain, visit Marocco ' highest waterfall and ride camels through the desert
.
And all that to just simply get my head free and to enjoy life❗
.
TELL ME: How do you disconnected from daily life in the best possible way???
.
#sweden #naturephotography
  • One of the moments where I felt completely free was this one 🙏
.
Driving down the great ocean road with a couple of friends .
The pure feeling of freedom I had, was absolutely incredible for me and in my opinion, that's pretty much what every person should aim for 👌
.
Only a couple percent of humans on our planet really have this privilege of being free - time and money wise
.
Being able to decide how you want to spend your day, doing whatever you want to do, whenever you want to do it, without having anyone telling you that you can't, is the ultimate goal for me ⭐
.
And until I get there I try to get this feeling of freedom as much as I can to fuel my brain 👊
.
This is also why I like traveling so much, because you experience crazy things that give you this feeling
.
Why am I saying this???
.
Because I honestly think that we all need something in our lifes that keeps us going
.
For some it's driving a nice car
.
For others it's buying their own flat
.
For me, it's living life on my own terms
.
And this is why I can only recommend anyone, who thinks in a similar way, to travel foreign countries as much as possible, because it gives you a good glimpse of best feeling in the world - FREEDOM
.
