Top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia

By on 25. Januar 2017

The East Coast of Australia is full of cool things to do. You can visit wonderful national parks, go surfing on world famous beaches, do sailing trips, explore the jungle and much more. There is something to do for everyone. The following things are the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia.

Top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia

Just like always, I have to say, that the following top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia are the ones, which I consider to be the best. Other travellers may have a different opinion. But in general almost everyone will tell you the same stuff more or less. Because I loved the East Coast of Australia from the bottom to the top, the following top 10 things to do, were hard to choose. But I think you will agree with me, when you have crossed them of your list 😉

Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road is the first spot on the East Coast of Australia, if you would start in the south and it has to be on the list of the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia. This nearly 250 km coastal road is absolutely beautiful. Along the way you will see famous spots like Bells Beach, the Spit Point Lighthouse and the 12 Apostles. The coastline itself is also magnificent to look at and worth taking a lot of time. I recommend to stay there for 3 days minimum. You will be fascinated by the beauty of this area. You will probably also see some great wildlife (kangaroos or koalas primarily) on your way. Just a cool place!

Surfing

The second thing of the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia is surfing or at least learning how to surf. The most famous spots you will probably discover on your way are Bells Beach, Bondi, Noosa Heads and the Gold Coast. Australia is very famous for its good surfing conditions. It is good for beginners as well as professionals. A lot of professional competitions from the World Surfing tour take place in Australia as well. You also have the opportunity to try out various surf schools and really live the typical australian lifestyle 😉

Surfing at Noosa Heads needs to be under the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia

Byron Bay

Byron Bay is one of my favourites for sure and it has to be on the list of the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia. Byron Bay is a very famous little village near Brisbane and it has a cool hippy style to it. You will meet a lot of other young travellers there and it is a perfect spot to hang out, to party and to have a good time. Besides that, it is very beautiful. The view you get from the lighthouse is pretty unique and on some days you can even spot some dolphins close to the beach. Byron Bay is also a good place to surf for beginners and other activities as well. So don’t miss out on that.

Melbourne & Sydney

Visiting Melbourne and Sydney is definitely on the list of the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia as well. Brisbane and Cairns are also quiet cool to be fair, but these two metropoles belong to the most livable cities on earth. Melbourne is famous for its art and young, open minded people. Sydney is known for its beauty, modernity and beautiful beaches.

There are a lot of things to do in both of these cities. Additionally they are both pretty green, they have good transportation links, they are close to the sea and they are very multicultural, which is a pretty cool thing. So make sure you cross these ones of your list.

The beautiful city of Sydney must be under the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia

National Parks

This one has to be on the list of the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia too. Why? Because there are heeps of wonderful national parks along the way up the East Coast. In this context I have to mention the Blue Mountains National Park, Wilson’s Promontory, the Grampians, Phillip Island and the Daintree Rainforest (see below). These are the ones, that I have visited and I can say that they are definitely worth visiting.

All of them have something special to it and some of them even have a cool story to tell like the 3 Sisters in the Blue Mountains. You can either do all of them as guided tours or discover them on your own. Either way, make sure you take your time and soak up all of the beauty you will see.

The Blue Mountains are easily under the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia

Fraser Island

Fraser Island is a hightlight in Australia and it has to be mentioned on the list of the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia. Especially, because of the stunning nature you will see there. I did a guided tour to Fraser Island with about 60 other travellers (that is what most people do). It costs around 350 $ (depending on where you book), which is a fair price. You can also take your own 4 wheel drive and discover the island on your own.

In my opinion a Fraser Island tour is a cool thing to do. You will meet a lot of cool people and spend the nights partying with many different nationalities 🙂 You stay in camps of neary about 120 people. I had a crazy time and saw awesome places like lake Mc Kenzie, 70 mile beach, the Champagne Pools, lake Wabby and the Maheno ship wreck. I would recommend Fraser Island any time!

Australia Zoo

The Australia Zoo is something you have to consider when you are thinking about the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia. The founder, the legend Steve Irwin, unfortunately died by an accident with a stingray, but his familiy still runs the zoo. He built a worldwide brand, which has its roots at the Australia Zoo.

You will find many cool animals there, which get treated very well, as far as I could see it. You can also find some cool photos of him and his adventures from all over the world. It is allowed to touch some animals like koalas and kangaroos as well. It is quiet expensive (59 $ for an adult day ticket) to get in, but it is very cool to be honest and it should be on your list.

Whitsunday Islands

This is one of my all time favourites from the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia – the Whitsunday Islands sailing tour. There are many companies, that offer these kind of tours. Basically they all do a 3 day trip around the islands including snorkeling, visiting the one and only Whitehaven Beach, learning the basics on how to sail and taking you to places with stunning views.

If you want you can go on a party boat as well. All these tours start at Airlie Beach, which is a very nice spot as well. Prices are about 350 $, also depending on what you book. These tours are just wonderful and you will probably never forget this trip. The whole area and the islands are just truely beautiful. Believe me on that one.

The Whitsunday Islands are also under the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia

Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef also has to be on the list of the top 10 things to see on the East Coast of Australia. This world famous piece of nature is absolutely wonderful. You can do different stuff there. You can either go for a scenic flight or scuba diving as well as snorkeling. All of that is a lot of fun. Many companies offer trips like that. They all include the transfer (be prepared for a ruff ride) food, drinks, guidance, etc. The whole package.

Tours cost about 200 $ for a day trip. It might sound expensive, but what you find on your arrival is not from this world. Even though a lot of parts of the Great Barrier Reef are unfortunately destroyed already, it is still a undeniably unique place. Many scuba divers go there every year and gladly come back. I would go back there every time, just like everyone else.

Daintree Rainforest

The last thing that has to be under the top 10 things to do on the East Coast of Australia is the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation. They lie north of Cairns and are something very different, compared to the rest of the east coast. The further you go up north, the wilder and jungle like it gets. The Daitree Rainforest once was a part of the Amazonas Rainforest. Because of the continental shift, they drifted apart.

Cape Tribulation is a famous beach spot in the middle of the jungle where an old sailors boat fliped over. It is a very beautiful place. You will see a lot of different plant and animal species there. Even magroves can be found. The feeling you get is pretty cool and something special. So do not miss out on that!

  • Strolling through paradise... 😍👌🌴
.
Some places on our planet are just crazy beautiful .
It's almost impossible to describe the beauty and the feeling that you get when you walk around at beaches like this one 🌞
.
I could not say which beach of all the ones I have seen so far would be the best one, but all the beaches in El Nido are definitely top ranked 🌏
.
TELL ME: Where did you really feel lost (in a good way 😉) the last time???
.
#paradise #island
  • Hello mate, how are you? 😀🐻🐾
.
Isn't that the cutest animal on earth?
.
What I can definitely say for myself is that they are easily the fluffiest I have ever touched 😍
.
And they are by far the most relaxed animals ever. Maybe because of all the eucalyptus they eat... 😉
.
TELL ME: What's YOUR favourite animal?

  • The door to Angkor Wat during sunrise 😍🌅
.
I love a good sunrise! Not only because of its enormous beauty, but mainly for the fact that it's the perfect symbol for a new chance 👌
.
A new chance to improve
.
A new chance to do something good
.
A new chance to bring value to the world
.
A new chance to walk towards the right direction
.
And ultimately and new chance to get the best out your life and make great memories!
.
Great Memories that you can tell grandchildren about in 50 years from now, which will teach them some valuable lessons for life 🙏

  • A perfect example of a unique city that can teach a great lesson❗
.
Spending some time in one of the coolest and most beautiful cities on the planet made me think about what an insane level of power, creativity and endurance humanity has
.
It's crazy what we are able to do and to build nowerdays. But it has always been like this ⏳
.
Prague is a really good example for that. A city full of thousands and thousands of details, wonderful buildings and historically important monuments, all built over a course of hundreds of years
.
And the required power, creativity and endurance the people needed is something that we all have within ourselfs 🔥
.
It's not only reservated for specific people or special human beings
.
Everyone has that in him/ herself ! 💪
.
It's just about recognizing these strenghts and letting them all out... 👊 and don't let anyone tell you any different!
.
I always say this (on my website as well) - travel is the best teacher. You just need to find the true values of it and adapt them to your everyday life 👌
.

  • What's the true value of home? 😍🍁
.
Pretty autumn views like this one from a nearby forest of my hometown Hamburg?
.
Maybe...
.
But not really. In my opinion it's something else
.
As much as I like travelling around, discovering new places, getting to know other cultures, meeting new people and seeing other types of wonderful landscapes, I just still never forget where I come from ⚓
.
Exploring the world as much as possible is great, but there is also a great value in appreciating your own Backround
.
The more I look around, the more I see young people like me, who want to escape from their home countries, just to wander around for as long as possible with no real intent
.
I think that's a big mistake! ☝
.
When the travel bug gets me again, I never JUST travel around to say:" hey look, I left things behind and went on the next big journey. Isn't that awesome???"
.
It is in a way, but not to much to be honest
.
When I go somewhere I always try to learn something new from the journey itself, the people or the culture AND THEN take it back home with me and use for my future
.
This why HOME is so important... Because it's the base where it all starts and Without home there would be nothing to ultimately come back and adapt your new skills to
.
So always make sure to appreciate home and where you come from 👌💪
.

  • I can already say, that exploring Nacpan Beach was one of the most beautiful things I have done this year even though there are still 2 months left... 😉😍
.
It's always fascinating to me how fast beautiful places like this usually become mass tourism spots
.
Luckily Nacpan Beach is still quite undeveloped and therefore one of the prettiest and most pristine beaches in northern Palawan in my opinion
.
Hopefully it stays like this for a long, long time ⏳🙏
.
If you have never been, I highly recommend to make this one of your next travel goals 😄

  • I don't know about you but I absolutely LOVE adventures❗
.
You know why?
.
Because they push you, they are fun AND you LEARN something valuable from them every single time 👊
.
One of the greatest adventures I have done in my life so far was a road trip through the center of Vietnam with my motorcycle that I called "Foxy Roxy" (I know that's weird 😅)
.
When I did it, I did not know what to expect, but my goal was to have an awesome time
.
I found out pretty quickly that it's gonna be a hard challenge: many locals didn't really speak English, roads have been in bad constitution, I got lost a couple times, my motorbike broke down 2 times, I freezed my ass off in the mountains and much, much more
.
So why was this adventure great then?
.
Because I LEARNED that you have got to keep pushing even if you struggle hard. You always have to keep going. Never give up. Keep moving and don't ever stop 💪
.
That's what I did, which is why I ended up having an amazing time: I saw awesome landscapes, met the friendliest people, found lost temples and ultimately learned an important lesson for life
.
ALWAYS keep pushing towards you goals EVERY single day and never give up
.
I AM CURIOUS: What is your biggest travel lesson??? 😊

  • There is a quote that says "if traveling was free, you'd never see me again" and this quote fits my attitude a 100%❗
.
My ultimate goal is to become free one day, financially and personally, so that I can travel to awesome places like banaue in the Philippines whenever I want 😍
.
Just being free of boundaries and the 9 to 5 lifestyle
.
If I had the chance, I'd probably travel the whole planet 🌎
.
Who's with me on this??? 😀
.
#banaue #riceterraces
  • One of the best sunsets I have ever seen was on Koh Lanta in Thailand 🌅
.
I just love a good sunset and I know I am not the only one... 😉
.
So TELL ME: where was your favourite sunset at? 🌎
.
P.s. I am going to London in 3 weeks. Anyone who has some tips on what to do?
