Travelbug – A Nightmare or Blessing for every Traveller

By on 12. Dezember 2016

The travelbug can be a true blessing or an absolute nightmare for every traveller. It definitely depends from which side you look at it and what your current situation looks like at the moment. Anyhow, once you travelled with your whole heart, you will never get rid of the travelbug and sooner or later you have to realize, that you have to live with it for the rest of your life…

The travelbug and its two completely different faces

The travelbug has two different faces in my opinion. It can be a really good thing or a bad thing for you. I already experienced both sides and I can definitely understand any traveller, who is on either of those sides. But what is it what we call the travelbug? I would call it a sentimental, nostalgic feeling or inner voice that always subconsciously goes with you while you travel or when you have already stopped travelling.

It is something that always pops up into your head, especially when you currently do not travel. This inner voice (or call it an emotion as well) asks you why you are not on the road and why you do not get your ass up and hit the next plane. It tells you that the “normal” life is boring and nothing has really changed since you came back to it.

While you travel it is more of an addiction. It keeps you going further. It lets you travel on and discover countless places. You never want to stop. It is like being on drugs when you really think about it (maybe a bit to much to say it like that 🙂 ). It definitely pushes you and keeps you excited. You wanna know what else is out there and what the world also has to offer besides what you have seen already.

It is crazy, either of these perspectives are very strong in itself. The emotions you have are very strong and you can not let go of them. Maybe you never will…

When I was on the road the travelbug made me go everywhere – Cape Tribulation, Australia

Even though it is cool to go on an adventurous vacation for a couple weeks, it is still different – Exploring Croatia

The travelbug as a blessing

The travelbug is a true blessing when you are on the road, out there exploring the world and live life to the fullest. It keeps you going and because of that you learn so many travel lessons for life. The travelbug will help you to reach your goals. It will make you work more, so you can get more money to travel. It will ensure, that you have some amazing times.

Additionally it will make you think differently and encourage you to try new things like living in a car for a few months. It will make you go to places you have never seen before. I for example have been to wonderful places like Australia – read more hereFiji, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia and much more.

The travelbug is something, that comes over time. It does not hit everyone, but it certainly effects the travellers, that stay on the road for a longer time and love what they do.

Thailand – an incredible country where the travelbug made me go to as well

Another cool destination where I had to go – Fraser Island

The travelbug even made me go into the jungle – Daintree Rainforest

The travelbug as a nightmare

On the other hand the travelbug can be an absolut nigtmare. Believe me on that one as well! It will almost hunt you when you come back home for a while. Sounds hard and unrealistic? A bit crazy maybe? Yeah, but that is actually how it is. When you come back from travelling the world, almost everyone wants to know what you have done, where you have been, what stories you have to tell.

You will be a big attraction for quite a while. You will still feel like you are on the road, out there somewhere, enjoying the freedom. But sooner or later you will realize that travelling is over for some time. Reality hits you like a truck. The normal 9 to 5 lifestyle is waiting for you and you can see the imaginary cage right in front of you. Acting like a monkey in the zoo. Filling the picture that everyone still has about you…

Vacations in beautiful Croatia – So cool, but still different than travelling continiously

What I have learned

All the above is the bad side of the travelbug, because it makes you think. It makes you think, if you are maybe missing out on something. It makes you ask yourself, if you should maybe leave everything else straight behind again and keep on your incredible journey. And you know what? That is a good thing! Because now you realize that you have changed!

Your whole personality has changed or definitely improved. You know, that this “normal” life and the way of thinking from previous generations is not for you. Definitely you realize, who you are and what you want in your life. You have grown out of your old shoes and put on a brand new pair…

I for myself can only say – use what you have learned! Either use it for a new and different “normal” life. Move somewhere else maybe. You could take some time to redirect. Maybe save some money and travel again. Or find something completely new. Maybe get a whole different job than the one you did before travelling. Just make sure you do not fall into bad old habbits. You are smarter now!

  • Strolling through paradise... 😍👌🌴
.
Some places on our planet are just crazy beautiful .
It's almost impossible to describe the beauty and the feeling that you get when you walk around at beaches like this one 🌞
.
I could not say which beach of all the ones I have seen so far would be the best one, but all the beaches in El Nido are definitely top ranked 🌏
.
TELL ME: Where did you really feel lost (in a good way 😉) the last time???
.

  • Hello mate, how are you? 😀🐻🐾
.
Isn't that the cutest animal on earth?
.
What I can definitely say for myself is that they are easily the fluffiest I have ever touched 😍
.
And they are by far the most relaxed animals ever. Maybe because of all the eucalyptus they eat... 😉
.
TELL ME: What's YOUR favourite animal?

  • The door to Angkor Wat during sunrise 😍🌅
.
I love a good sunrise! Not only because of its enormous beauty, but mainly for the fact that it's the perfect symbol for a new chance 👌
.
A new chance to improve
.
A new chance to do something good
.
A new chance to bring value to the world
.
A new chance to walk towards the right direction
.
And ultimately and new chance to get the best out your life and make great memories!
.
Great Memories that you can tell grandchildren about in 50 years from now, which will teach them some valuable lessons for life 🙏

  • A perfect example of a unique city that can teach a great lesson❗
.
Spending some time in one of the coolest and most beautiful cities on the planet made me think about what an insane level of power, creativity and endurance humanity has
.
It's crazy what we are able to do and to build nowerdays. But it has always been like this ⏳
.
Prague is a really good example for that. A city full of thousands and thousands of details, wonderful buildings and historically important monuments, all built over a course of hundreds of years
.
And the required power, creativity and endurance the people needed is something that we all have within ourselfs 🔥
.
It's not only reservated for specific people or special human beings
.
Everyone has that in him/ herself ! 💪
.
It's just about recognizing these strenghts and letting them all out... 👊 and don't let anyone tell you any different!
.
I always say this (on my website as well) - travel is the best teacher. You just need to find the true values of it and adapt them to your everyday life 👌

  • What's the true value of home? 😍🍁
.
Pretty autumn views like this one from a nearby forest of my hometown Hamburg?
.
Maybe...
.
But not really. In my opinion it's something else
.
As much as I like travelling around, discovering new places, getting to know other cultures, meeting new people and seeing other types of wonderful landscapes, I just still never forget where I come from ⚓
.
Exploring the world as much as possible is great, but there is also a great value in appreciating your own Backround
.
The more I look around, the more I see young people like me, who want to escape from their home countries, just to wander around for as long as possible with no real intent
.
I think that's a big mistake! ☝
.
When the travel bug gets me again, I never JUST travel around to say:" hey look, I left things behind and went on the next big journey. Isn't that awesome???"
.
It is in a way, but not to much to be honest
.
When I go somewhere I always try to learn something new from the journey itself, the people or the culture AND THEN take it back home with me and use for my future
.
This why HOME is so important... Because it's the base where it all starts and Without home there would be nothing to ultimately come back and adapt your new skills to
.
So always make sure to appreciate home and where you come from 👌💪

  • I can already say, that exploring Nacpan Beach was one of the most beautiful things I have done this year even though there are still 2 months left... 😉😍
.
It's always fascinating to me how fast beautiful places like this usually become mass tourism spots
.
Luckily Nacpan Beach is still quite undeveloped and therefore one of the prettiest and most pristine beaches in northern Palawan in my opinion
.
Hopefully it stays like this for a long, long time ⏳🙏
.
If you have never been, I highly recommend to make this one of your next travel goals 😄

  • I don't know about you but I absolutely LOVE adventures❗
.
You know why?
.
Because they push you, they are fun AND you LEARN something valuable from them every single time 👊
.
One of the greatest adventures I have done in my life so far was a road trip through the center of Vietnam with my motorcycle that I called "Foxy Roxy" (I know that's weird 😅)
.
When I did it, I did not know what to expect, but my goal was to have an awesome time
.
I found out pretty quickly that it's gonna be a hard challenge: many locals didn't really speak English, roads have been in bad constitution, I got lost a couple times, my motorbike broke down 2 times, I freezed my ass off in the mountains and much, much more
.
So why was this adventure great then?
.
Because I LEARNED that you have got to keep pushing even if you struggle hard. You always have to keep going. Never give up. Keep moving and don't ever stop 💪
.
That's what I did, which is why I ended up having an amazing time: I saw awesome landscapes, met the friendliest people, found lost temples and ultimately learned an important lesson for life
.
ALWAYS keep pushing towards you goals EVERY single day and never give up
.
I AM CURIOUS: What is your biggest travel lesson??? 😊

  • There is a quote that says "if traveling was free, you'd never see me again" and this quote fits my attitude a 100%❗
.
My ultimate goal is to become free one day, financially and personally, so that I can travel to awesome places like banaue in the Philippines whenever I want 😍
.
Just being free of boundaries and the 9 to 5 lifestyle
.
If I had the chance, I'd probably travel the whole planet 🌎
.
Who's with me on this??? 😀
.
#banaue #riceterraces
  • One of the best sunsets I have ever seen was on Koh Lanta in Thailand 🌅
.
I just love a good sunset and I know I am not the only one... 😉
.
So TELL ME: where was your favourite sunset at? 🌎
.
P.s. I am going to London in 3 weeks. Anyone who has some tips on what to do?
